What’s it like to work @Avant? We asked Kevin for his take on our culture, and here’s what he said:
1. How would you describe Avant’s culture?
When I’m talking to a candidate, I often describe our culture as smart, driven, and fun. I work with intelligent people, and everyone is a master of their craft or is becoming one—that’s where the driven part comes in. There’s freedom and opportunity to work on so many different things if you want to get the experience and learn. And of course, I get to know a lot of people in every department. There’s great teamwork and communication here, and we keep everyone connected with our Demo Days, #SocialWhileDistanced Slack channel, and virtual events. It’s always a fun time.
2. Why are you happy here?
I’m happy here because I’m free to learn as much as I can and influence new initiatives that are critical to the company. Between the candidates I’ve recruited and all the hiring managers and teams I work with, I probably know almost every single person at Avant by now. My strong communication skills and teamwork mindset mean I’m able to get a lot done and move efficiently, and help build all our great teams quickly. It’s fun getting to know all the hiring managers and their different styles and quirks. When I look back on 2018 when I was a coordinator, I wasn’t even recruiting yet, and now over the past few years I’ve grown so much. It’s crazy.
3. What’s your favorite thing about the way your specific job role works?
I love how I am able to learn so much of the business. As a recruiter, the more you understand how the company works and what’s coming next in our growth, the more successful you’ll be. Since I get to talk to people at every level, I get to see how every person contributes.
At another company, someone in my role might be focused on just the Data team or just the Marketing side, but I get to talk to everyone. That variety and freedom makes me feel like my work has a lot of impact and influence on the company.
4. When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a doctor. I was even a Nursing Major in college. Recruiting is a big change from that path, but at the end of the day, I just want to help others. Hopefully by building up our great teams here, I’m helping the cause.
